Delaware Repeal is a coalition of organizations, community partners, faith leaders and individuals dedicated to repealing the death penalty in Delaware.
Delaware Repeal has been successful in organizing a wide range of Delawareans to speak out in support of death penalty repeal, thanks to the coalition's website, influential members, community events, social media, and grassroots organizing. Strong supporters of the initiative include:
- Family members who have lost a loved one to murder
- Individuals working in the criminal justice system
- Faith leaders
- Civic, political and community leaders
This formidable group will keep pushing legislation until it is approved and Delware becomes yet another state to repeal the death penalty.
Our Work for this Client
After Upleaf launched ACLU of Delaware's website in 2011, they approached us to develop a site for Delaware Repeal, a coalition of which they were a member. Because they had a limited budget and couldn't afford separate website design and hosting, we opted to house a DE-Repeal branded website within the broader ACLU-DE website and integrated it with ACLU-DE's CRM system. This approach helped to save big on development, maintenance and hosting costs, while visitors experienced an aesthetic that was completely different from the ACLU-DE website.
The DE Repeal site was designed to portray and evoke community. The site features video testimonies from law enforcement, murder victims' families, and clergy and faith leaders, all speaking out against the death penalty. News and events from all coalition partners are routinely posted on the site, as well as streamed Facebook posts, so the home page is beautifully dynamic. Upleaf also developed an infographic to make key information about the death penalty in Delaware more digestible.
To reinforce the community feel of the site, the inner pages feature a snapshot of the Facebook community and the Facebook app automatically displays fans who are friends of the site visitor.
Digital Social Marketing
Upleaf helped DE Repeal set up their initial Facebook Page and Twitter accounts and provided extensive best practice training. We then integrated Facebook, Twitter and YouTube with the DE Repeal website. Events and news published on the website automatically stream to DE Repeal's Twitter account. Facebook status updates and fans stream to the website.
YouTube playlists also stream to the website, and the videos that display on the website can be updated just by changing their order within DE Repeal's YouTube channel. Social media icons are displayed prominently in the website header to drive visitors to become part of those communities. With all of these synergistic features in place, the social media communities surged as soon as the site was launched.
