With 1.94 billion global users, Facebook is the platform that brought social media into the mainstream.

After over a decade since its debut, Facebook still reigns as the dominant social networking platform. Here is the proof-in-numbers of Facebook's dominance:

Who's On Facebook?

Seventy-nine percent of all online American adults, with 76% of those users checking their account daily. The most common age group at 29.7% of users are between the ages 25-34 and five new profiles are created every second.

Among teens, the total number of users remains high, according to Pew Research Center surveys. While focus group interviews suggest that this age group's relationship with Facebook is complicated and may be evolving, they are not yet abandoning the site.

Facebook for Nonprofits

Facebook is clearly a powerhouse when it comes to social networking. But is it right for your organization?

Some nonprofits have done a fabulous job of growing their supporter base through Facebook, and building intense loyalty. Many others have been using it for years, but are still trying to figure out how to get a return on their substantial time investment.

With changes to Facebook's Newsfeed algorithm and Facebook's push toward increased monetization (with promoted posts and greater visibility for paid advertisers) many nonprofits have seen a drop in their fan reach over the past year.

This may mean you'll need to budget for advertising on Facebook, or spend more time developing visual content to deftly and strategically increase your reach.
